Virginia Thornton was born and raised in Norfolk, Virginia and is a proud graduate of Hampton University. Giving back to her community, and serving as an example for excellence in business are at the forefront of all of her endeavors. Virginia spent twelve years as the Community Outreach manager for Dominion Energy fostering partnerships and activations to move their community agenda forward. Virginia serves on the board of directors for the Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters (CHKD). In addition to being a leader in the community, Virginia is an advocate for addressing mental health issues and seeks to provide resources and opportunities to bring these topics to the forefront locally and across the nation. Virginia is also the Co-Owner and Creative Director of Get Well Soon, a self care sanctuary and wellness studio located in Norfolk, Virginia. As a proud wife and mother, the most important aspect of life to Virginia is family. Motherhood has illuminated Virginia’s purpose and power, and she seeks to share her gifts and passions with the world. As a lifelong tennis player and community advocate it was a no brainer to start Black Girls Tennis Club. Virginia has played tennis since she could hold a racket and continues to play regularly as one of her favorite hobbies and primary outlet. Virginia was also inspired to create BGTC because growing up, she was often the only Black girl on her team.
