Christy Everett directs the Chesapeake Bay Foundation’s (CBF) Hampton Roads office, located at Brock Environmental Center (one of the greenest buildings in the world) in Virginia Beach, Virginia. She oversees the Hampton Roads office’s volunteer recruitment, restoration, outreach and advocacy programs and shares CBF’s message about protecting our waterways to the Hampton Roads community.
Christy works with her team at CBF to protect local waterways through: • Getting children out on the water (on CBF’s workboat or canoe program) to teach them about our waterways
• Helping people advocate to our decision makers for clean water
• Teaching people how to be Bay Stewards with on-the-ground restoration
Background
Prior to joining CBF in 2000, Christy worked for the Maryland Department of Natural Resources as a Tributary Team Coordinator to reduce nutrient pollution. Previously, she educated the public on behalf of the Sierra Club in Portland, Maine, and with New Jersey Community Water Watch, where she led environmental action and education on the Passaic River.
Christy received her undergraduate degree in environmental studies from Hobart and William Smith Colleges in New York. While at Hobart and William Smith, she examined international environmental issues firsthand through study-abroad programs in Vietnam, Mexico and Ecuador. She also has done graduate work in environmental and conservation studies with the University of Maryland.
Raised on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, Christy has lived or traveled extensively in this country and abroad. She currently resides with her family in Norfolk.
Advisory and Community Involvement
Christy is a Co-Chair of the Second Congressional District Chesapeake Bay Advisory Board and a member of the St. Patrick Catholic School Laudato Si Committee (past Chair).
She has served as Associate Commissioner of Virginia Marine Resources Commission; has graduated from the CIVIC Leadership program and Water Resources Leadership Initiative (as well as program assistant); and served of City of Virginia Beach Green Ribbon Committee.
